Mom workers

A recent report by TD Economics states that women can experience a wage loss of 3% for every year they spend outside the workforce. Even for mothers who only stay home until their child is in junior kindergarten, using a low wage of 40 K, that could mean up to a $4800 a year loss. As I have always believed, we all need children to be born; we being employers, businesses, schools, citizens, hr staff. Therefore we all have to work to find a solution.

As a stay/work at home mother, I had realized from the beginning that it wasn’t just career development that I would be sacrificing. Choosing to be a mother in today’s society comes with a price beyond the cost of raising children. Women and men need to lobby together to protect women’s choices to work and have children without being penalized financially. It is hard enough to raise good little citizens and having a lesser income for doing so really can put an added pressure on the family unit and truly de-values motherhood!

The article suggests “good for us” — we’ve cracked the Top 20. I think we need to raise the bar and become Top 10 sooner than later.
